Long ago on earth, immortal beings came to the planet after animals had been there for millions of years. The earth and all its creatures were so beautiful that the immortal beings simply wanted to exist there in observance. Requiring no food or water, the immortal beings' life force was a magic that allowed them to live in nature without interfering in any harmful way. They were so powerful, and yet only capable of radiating a positive energy to everything around them. Their origin is mysterious, but they were believed to be the first children of an unknown divine power. So, they are referred to as the Divine Beings. With the power the Divine Beings first arrived with, they could not be harmed or slain. They existed without the presence of fear, yet had limitless empathy. Over time the Divine Beings went from observing the world and all its creatures, to creating friendships with them, and eventually communicating with them telepathically. The Divine Beings loved Earth’s creatures so much that they gave up some of their divine power to grant them magical abilities, including an immortal life. This created animal-like Demigod Spirits that all the other animals gravitated towards. The closer animals were to the Demigod Spirits, the more sentient they appeared. The longer the Divine Beings spent on earth, the more Demigod Spirits they created. These Demigods Spirits spread their magic throughout the other animals until the entire earth was covered in beings with magical powers.
A portal remained open for the source of divine power to maintain a bridge to earth, creating a steady flow of Divine Beings to replenish the pure source of magic. The Divine Beings who first arrived were transformed into the Fae after spending so many years on earth. Magic spread like roots through all of Earth’s creatures, diluting itself into the reality of mortals. The nature of a mortal’s fight for survival and fear of death, mixed with the magical power of the immortal Divine Beings, produced many new variations of life and events that were not foreseen. Having never experienced the pain of mortality, the Divine Beings did not expect that their magic could be used for evil and trickery. They were introduced to Dark Energy for the first time, having no prior concept of it. In an attempt to cleanse their magic, the Divine Beings tried to close the portal, but because of how much of their source magic they had connected to Earth, they could not. So, they split the one portal into smaller pieces and hid these gates all over the world. One of the gates was placed deep in the Swamps, protected by sirens lurking in the waters. The Divine Beings needed someone to maintain order over the magical creatures in the Swamp Lands to keep evil away from the gate.
Under a new moon in the pitch black of night, the mice of the woodlands found a little girl radiating a glow of light at the foot of the oldest oak tree in the forest. The girl was left in the woods by her mother, a dark elf. Her mother had convinced a Fae, who had been one of the original divine beings, to give her a child so she could use the child’s power. As a prophet had predicted, “There will be a child born in The Swamps from darkness, that will be the light. The child’s light will shine so bright it will make the darkness turn away. This child will need a home so they may be protected, or else they could turn into a powerful evil. Under the protection and guidance of the divine power, being born from darkness will prevent the child from making the same mistakes as the naive Divine Beings, giving the child the ability to rule over the Swamp Lands where a magic gate is hidden”. The Divine Beings believed this was the child to fulfill the prophecy, so she was raised to be the ruler of the Swamps and still peacefully reigns. The mice who found her remained by her side and more mice followed to serve the Queen, so she was named Swamp Queen of The Mouse Kingdom, or Maus for short.
The Swamp Queen is a rare beautiful soul who often thinks deeply. She expresses herself through art by decorating her kingdom with sculptures and drawings of her own creation, mainly focusing on the ancient art of ceramics and rock carving. Maus shows her appreciation for her mouse subjects and the natural elements of the Swamp Lands by representing them in her work. Recently, bunnies have been incorporated into her work as they are always hanging out with mice in the kingdom. Each piece is intertwined with divinity and darkness, just like Maus.
DJ TANUKI LORE
There is legend of a raccoon with musical powers named DJ Tanuki who resides in The Swamps. He is depicted to always be wearing a hat. While this raccoon’s natural state is peaceful and chill, if challenged he shoots a musical laser beam out of his hands destroying all in his path. If you tune your ears while standing at the edge of the forest, watching moss covered oak tree branches sway in the wind, you might just hear the distant sound of the raccoon’s music. Legend has it that DJ Tanuki originally hailed from the mountains, but he ventured into The Swamp Lands at the behest of The Swamp Queen, lured by the ethereal mists to elevate his musical craft.
DJ Tanuki was once part of a trio that formed magical eggs from their inner light in the palms of their hands. They protected the magical eggs and used them to spread light and music. An evil sorcerer became involved to harvest the eggs for greed. This sorcerer was so fried on poison berries that only the energy of the magical eggs could allow them to survive, but they themselves did not have the gift to produce the eggs. DJ Tanuki realized this sorcerer wasn’t worthy of the eggs so he started hiding portions of them to smuggle into The Swamp Lands. One night the raccoon and his associates were hiding in a boarded-up cave. They casted spell after spell to transport the magical eggs to the new location away from the sorcerer. Every sharp stick and rock that could be used as a weapon was lined up inside of the cave so that they felt safer while they casted their spells. There was a knock on the door, the suspicious sorcerer and their fools had arrived to do some investigating. DJ Tanuki concealed the eggs, commanding one of his associates to answer the door and distract the sorcerer with one of the eggs. He commanded the other to sit in front of the concealed eggs with all the sharp sticks and rocks at arm’s reach. The confused and intimidated sorcerer took the single egg, unaware of the rest, and vacated the cave, heading back to their evil cottage. The raccoon continued to transport the remaining eggs with spells until the sun came up, and then jumped through a portal to The Swamps.
